Capital Tax The Swoll Package MCA • 1993

TMD aka Total Mind Devestator, Bozie, Scruff and DJ Cool Al emerged from the West Coast in 1993 with this fat funky boombap album. The rhymes are ruff and rugged, straight from the streets and revive the early 90s sound.

No gangsta ish on this one, but plain street rap. The beats, produced by Smooth G, are (indeed) smooth bass lines, funky drum lines with lots of saxes in the background. Highlights are the songs 'I Can’t Believe It' (a single of the album), 'Can You Dig It', 'The Masha' (another song that was released as 12' and semi-anthem), 'Make Some Cash' and 'Treetop Connection' featuring JH The Master, Father Dom, Alafi and Prophecy.

This piece of vinyl is almost an hour of fresh ass hip-hop provin that the West Coast was definitely with it in 1993. Remember also Alkaholiks’ '21&Over', Souls of Mischief’s '93 till Infinity', Del’s 'No Need for Alarm', Ice Cube’s 'Lethal Injection' and of course Snoop Dogg’s 'Doggystyle'.
