Miami Bass is sometimes linked with cheap ass production but albums like these prove different!
POSTED 02|07|2005After hookin up with Stu Fine, owner of the Wild Pitch label, the then 20-year old Finesse and DJ Smooth dropped this fantastic LP on us. With the help of DJ Premier, Showbiz and Diamond they’ve created one of the best hip-hop albums ever made.
POSTED 02|06|2005Who is it? Who is it? Payin me a visit? Grapevine, Nastee and M.O.L. came on the scene as Trends of Culture and caught wreck on the uptown tip! Jazz artists like Roy Ayers, The Crusaders and Grover Washington Jr are sampled and give the beats a mellow touch.
POSTED 02|01|2005Straight out the First Priority camp came Pos K ready to blow the spot. 'I Got A Man' was a big hit in the States but the album never got too much credit. Not the credit it deserved anyway. This album is a magnificent piece of hip-hop with fresh funky beats and clever rhymes.
POSTED 02|01|2005Common Sense’s second album is incredible: the beats are the finest jazz beats ever made and puts No ID in our top ten of producers.
POSTED 01|24|2005The King Asiatic No Equal is one of the dopest MC’s in history; standin right beside Rakim and being the best rapper of the Juice Crew (just before Kool G Rap). With his braggadocios pimp-ass rhyming, lethal punch lines and persistent flow there’s no substitute. All these talents came out on 'Long Live the Kane'.
POSTED 01|23|2005This record’s a great debut for the new label that promises to become a heavyweight in the Bay Area underground scene. Give thanks that the beats and the rhymes are ill!
POSTED 01|11|2005The record hits off with 'Yellow Panties', a great mellow electro track with hilarious lyrics. Rapwise, they sound a lot like Run DMC, but at that time that’s not really a surprise caus the Hollis Queens trio were an influence for a lot of artists.
POSTED 01|08|2005Between the recordings Joeski met Bomb Squad producer Hank Shocklee, who hooked him up with Hurby Luv Bug, who, at his turn, produced several cuts for this album. With Luv Bug’s style, add a big drop of Dana Dane and Slick Rick and you have the recipe for the Joe Cool album.
POSTED 01|06|2005Being true to hip-hop’s legacy, the group also brings to the table two dedications; a 'Paid in Full'-inspired skit, in which Capital D criticizes the US government, and a creative remake of ATCQ’s 'Check the Time'.
