Meeks is raw, Meeks is class, his flow is drained in dirtiness, not 'dirrty, dirrty' but solid rhymes with smart lyrics, characterized by unique punch lines and sharp metaphors; 'Independence is my shepherd, the wolves can’t get through me'.
POSTED 01|05|2006This however, is left-wing, the underground’s alternative, the basement of the Subterraneous. An experiment that is not as revolutionary to hip-hop as 'Pavlov’s Dog' was to Behaviourism, but it’s one with lots of potential. This is for the ones who wanna dig deeper than the surface of underground hip-hop.
POSTED 12|28|2005For this mix CD, that anticipates RADIx’s first full length 'The Staple', they hooked up with DJ Opal! of the infamous Shadyville mixtape label. The CD consists of some new and old releases intertwined with interview extracts, in an attempt to get to know the duo better.
POSTED 12|23|2005'Boy-Cottin The Industry' is an interesting album. It’s creative production, very versatile through the combination of instruments and sampling, while the rhymes are well-thought over, serious, witty and blunt with a touch of irony. Either way, the long-time experience of Classified has come to a height that it will hopefully be paying off. It already convinced us, Mr Industry, the jig is up!
POSTED 12|22|2005'I been doin this since Helly Hanssen was in fashion', the 90's are reviving on this album, and we’re grateful for that, no matter how trendy it is these days for underground MC's to claim that they are goin back into time! Now excuse us as we’re putting on our backpack, stick a lollypop in our mouth, rock our baggy jeans with matchin' polo shirt and bump this fine piece of music.
POSTED 12|22|2005Entirely produced by UK's Quincey Tones, this album is another addition to the growing list of internet or transatlantic collabo’s. Whether it’ll impress you as much as Nicolay’s (and Phonté’s) Foreign Exchange might be in doubt, but Q Tones’ production catches our attention too.
POSTED 12|19|2005The Reavers is a fine initiative, and a welcome change to the monotonous and innocent, 'everything-is-so-wonderful' albums that come out today. Most artists put a critical song or two on their album, but it comes across less often that a whole album is filled with strong minds who got something to say about today’s politics and link it historically, unless your name is Paris.
POSTED 12|16|2005With more than a regular interest we've been keeping an eye on the West Coast underground, because there's an irreplaceable vibe and creativity that dominates and spices up the rap scene. 'Unspoken' has some of that energy and pins one's attention on a group that has plenty more good vibes for the future.
POSTED 12|15|2005Anger, bitterness and frustration enhance strong emotions. Besides love, they are the best fertile for the field of creativity. This kind of expression has been best described with the term 'Weltschmerz' that became popular in the eighteenth century through the 'Sturm und Drang' movement in German literature.
POSTED 12|15|2005It is often so that hip-hop artists do not dare or even can’t display additional skills next to the actual rappin. They're scared for the reactions of their fans, managers or fellow rappers and ignore to stay true to their own and what they really like to do. Not so with Denizen Kane.
